HP Printer Test Page (CMYK)
The Hewlett-packard tri-color printer can be tested multiple ways, but we usually recommend running a self-diagnostic print, where the device prints it’s own memory-stored test page. For an uninformed user like me, there is not much useful information being printed apart from precise serial number and pre-installed firmware version.
However, you can also download our Tri-color HP print test page which we put together for more thorough color testing.
You can start by printing the initial diagnostic page, here is how it’s done:
Turn on the Printer: Ensure that the printer is powered on and has paper loaded in the tray.
Locate the Printer’s Control Panel: Find the buttons on the control panel. The exact buttons may vary by model.
If you cannot find the right menu option that hints to test page printing, here are the steps to take:
⚐ For many HP models, pressing and holding the “Resume” or “Cancel” button for a few seconds will print a test page.
Some models might require you to press the “Setup” button (usually represented by a gear icon), navigate to “Tools” or “Printer Maintenance,” and select “Print Quality Report” or “Test Page.”
Alternatively, on some HP printers, pressing and holding the “Power” and “Resume” button simultaneously may also initiate a test page print.
For testing CMYK color printing, download the HP test page PDF. Follow the specific instructions for your printer model to set it to CMYK mode. Use our PDF test pages to evaluate the tri-color print quality.
HP Printer Test Page (PDF) for color print testing in CMYK
The HP Tri-color test page is optimized for testing color performance of HP printers. You can download and print in color mode on a blank A4 paper sheet. Repeat the test as much as needed, to reach best print quality results with your HP device.
Please note that we also offer a variety of test pages, both brand-specific and more generic, available for download.
Warning: Do not print the preview JPG image itself, as it is highly compressed and it will not meet the required performance criteria for a proper color test page. The tools and guides we offer on this website are entirely free of charge, so please use the appropriate download button to get the necessary testing media for conducting the test.
How to use this test
This test page is intended to be used with HP color printer. The tri-color cartridges are optimized for printing in CMYK mode, which is why this page has shaped and patterns in black, cyan, magenta and yellow gradients.
You can use this test in addition to the standard test page that the printer already provides programmatically. The standard HP page has different color blocks and test patterns, some key information like serial number, firmware version and some other model-specific technical data.
Meanwhile, this test page highlights color performance challenges and helps pinpoint any underlying issues or fine-tune the quality of your prints.
The usual approach should constitute something like this:
Consult the Manual: Review the printer manual for specific instructions and ensure you have compatible software and drivers.
Check Printer Condition: Ensure the printer is in good condition with no clogged nozzles or other issues.
Use Recommended Paper: Use the specified paper type for accurate test results.
Adjust Printer Settings: Set the printer to the recommended paper size, orientation, resolution, and color settings.
Print the Test Page: Load the test page and print at 100% scale without any scaling options enabled.

How to Evaluate This Test
Compare the printed test page to the original template on our website.
This test includes black, white, and CMYK sample blocks for your typical HP printer. Simply look for differences between the two images.
Analyze the Test Page: Closely inspect the test page for any mismatches with the original file shown on our website.
Look for Visible Banding, Streaks, or Anomalies: Check for color consistency, lightness, darkness, and the integrity of each printed shape. Common printer issues may appear as streaks, lines, or missing parts.
Potential Printer Issues: If issues are found, it may indicate problems such as clogged nozzles, low ink levels, or other technical issues.
☆ In most cases of lightly clogged nozzles, a cmyk purge sheet can do miracles and save you a trip to printer repair service.
