Canon Printer Test Page (CMYK)
The Canon printer can be tested in multiple ways, but we recommend running a self-diagnostic print, where the device prints its own memory-stored test page. This page typically includes useful information such as precise serial numbers and the pre-installed firmware version.
You can also download our Canon print test page for more thorough color testing.
To print the initial diagnostic page, follow these steps:
Turn on the Printer: Ensure that the printer is powered on and has paper loaded in the tray.
Locate the Printer’s Control Panel: Find the buttons on the control panel. The exact buttons may vary by model.
If you cannot find the right menu option for test page printing, here are the steps to take:
β For many Canon models, pressing and holding the “Stop” or “Resume” button for a few seconds will print a test page.
Some models might require you to press the “Setup” button (usually represented by a wrench or tools icon), navigate to “Maintenance,” and select “Nozzle Check” or “Print Test Page.”
Alternatively, on some Canon printers, pressing and holding the “Power” and “Resume” button simultaneously may also initiate a test page print.
For testing CMYK color printing, download the Canon test page PDF. Follow the specific instructions for your printer model to set it to CMYK mode. Use our PDF test pages to evaluate the print quality.
Canon Printer Test Page (PDF) for color print testing in CMYK
This is a standard color test page for canon printer that I use most often. You can download and print in color mode on a blank A4 paper sheet. Repeat the test as much as needed, to reach best print quality results with your Canon device.
Please note that we also offer a variety of test pages, both brand-specific and more generic, available for download.
Warning: Do not print the preview JPG image itself, as it is highly compressed and it will not meet the required performance criteria for a proper color test page. The tools and guides we offer on this website are entirely free of charge, so please use the appropriate download button to get the necessary testing media for conducting the test.
How to use this test
This test page is intended to be used with Canon printer models. You should be printing in CMYK to ensure proper color ink usage for this test.
You can use this test along with the printer’s built-in test page. The standard Canon test page shows color blocks, test patterns, serial number, firmware version, and other model-specific details. Most Canon models also include some variation of nozzle test patterns which is great for basic troubleshooting.
This additional test page helps spot color issues and fine-tune print quality. For example, in my experience, CMYK pattern printing helps diagnose printer issues by revealing color performance problems, alignment errors, and potential nozzle clogs.
Here’s the usual process:
Check the Manual: Look at the printer manual for specific steps and make sure you have the right software and drivers.
Ensure Printer Health: Confirm the printer is in good shape with no clogged nozzles or other problems.
Use the Right Paper: Use the recommended paper type for accurate results.
Adjust Settings: Set the printer to the correct paper size, orientation, resolution, and color settings.
Print the Test Page: Load the test page and print it at 100% scale without any scaling options enabled.

How to Evaluate This Test
Compare the printed test page to the original template on our website.
This test includes black, white, and CMYK sample blocks for your typical CanonΒ printer. Simply look for differences between the two images.
Analyze the Test Page: Closely inspect the test page for any mismatches with the original file shown on our website.
Look for Visible Banding, Streaks, or Anomalies: Check for color consistency, lightness, darkness, and the integrity of each printed shape. Common printer issues may appear as streaks, lines, or missing parts.
Potential Printer Issues: If issues are found, it may indicate problems such as clogged nozzles, low ink levels, or other technical issues.
β In most cases of lightly clogged nozzles, a cmyk purge sheet can do miracles and save you a trip to printer repair service.
